Every Home Should Have Just a Little.......Animal

I don’t know what it is about animal print fabrics but they really do go one way or the other, super kitsch and hideous like those horrible, cheap, polyester faux furs or stylish and luxurious like a gorgeous Beacon Hill Cheetah pattern velvet. I of course am partial to the latter and sitting here writing this tonight realise I have at least 3 within my sight and one more one my purchasing list that I want to upholster my Chippendale chair seat in.

To me just a little hint here and there adds interest and intrigue and there really are so many to choose from, my favourite at the moment, Giraffe!

My absolute favourite! Wish I had enough conviction to live with this, the pink trim detail, the green desk and matching fabric and wallpaper!

A whole occasional chair in Zebra print fabric, may sound out there but in this subtle tonal conbination it looks great!

Schumacher Leopard Linen

Now this may be pushing it for most but I think it is just perfect in this interior, it doesn't fight with anything and I think that's why it works!

Not crash hot on the scatters on the sofa, but this front scatter and ottoman in the peach,wow!

Now this is me! Contrast piping in Kelly Green and the cutest little Cheetah scatter in the same, love it!

Love the Zebra print drapes in this gorgeous duck egg blue, great compliment to the matching Chipendale chair.

When You Just Can't Decide, Patchwork is the Answer

Patchwork is certainly not up my [straight laced, matchy matchy, symmetrical] design alley but it does solve the problem of not being able to decide on what fabric you want to work with, an issue I often have!

Furniture retailer Jimmy Possum is recognised for their striking patchwork floorstock pieces, and recognised Australian furniture manufacturers such as Arthur G are also offering patchwork upholstery on their pieces. Done correctly, patchwork upholstery can look great, it can showcase stunning fabrics, appeal to a more bohemian salvaged interior scheme or be tonally complementing and a focal point of the interior.

It’s either a look you aim to achieve or a case of not having the budget for that new upholstery job and you’ve sewn together every piece of fabric you can find. What are your thoughts?

I love this image from Living Etc. The colour, the trim on the drape and the pooling on the floor, nearly sells the sofa for me!

Not sure if it's the style of the sofa or the patchwork but I can't help but think of Alice in Wonderland?

A very tonal approach to patchwork upholstery,almost palatable?

Think this suits the interior to a tee! Don't miss that wire cloud up there either, stunning!

There is something about this one that I love, it may be the colour combination, the buttoning and the more applique look than patchwork, very cool!

Very pretty, too much for me, but I do love this upholstering of the timberwork, nice detail.

Looks like the most uncomfortable sofa in the world but a very classy approach to patchowrk upholstery dont you think?

The good side of Pink: Shocking

I probably would have fought this idea a decade or so back but I have come to the realisation that every girl truly does have a soft spot for pink. For some, any shade is fine but for me it has to be either end of the spectrum, a true, light, feminine baby pink or a super bright, hot, Shocking Pink!

At one point in time this tone would have shocked [hence the name, named after the pink lettering used on the Leonor Fini perfume ‘Shocking’ in 1937] and certainly now I still think it raises eyebrows but I think it’s for all the right reasons. A little or a lot of Shocking pink in your interior or even in your fashion shows a bold lust for life and seriously does it not make you smile?

This is hands down my favourite pink colour combo, works every time, shocking pink + tangerine. This is just too cute!

This interior image has a bit of a trick to it I think, first time you look you think the pink chaise is the statement in the sea of white then you look closely and the detail is fabulous! The graffiti artwork in the dining, the black piping around the footstool, the floral upholstered lounge, the deep buttoning, love it!

Now that looks fluffy and inviting!

Not crash on the gloss white woodwork but love the obvious tie to the rug.

New Collections: Sanderson

We all know Sanderson, the traditionally English fabric house renowned for its linens, printed floral chintz linens that is, people still to this day request Sanderson linen when having there sofa’s re-upholstered ‘do you have any Sanderson Linens,  I had this sofa upholstered in Sanderson linen 20 years ago now and look how good it is”.

No longer is Sanderson only the home of printed chintz, the company originally started in 1860 manufacturing wallpaper is now an internationally recognised fabric, wallpaper, paint, bed linen and tableware company. There latest collection ‘Colour for Living’ is fun, vibrant and youthful with modern takes on traditional floral and a unique combination of patterns and colour that could cater for myself as a nearly 30 year old or no doubt by mother or grandmother.  I suppose that sort of talent in catering for the majority comes from over 150 years in the industry!

A little birdy told me....

Have we always liked birds? I don’t know what has happened, maybe it’s like when you buy a particular car and then you see that car everywhere, maybe I have gotten on the bird bandwagon and now I see them everywhere? I don’t know, I have loved birds for ages but I don’t think I have ever noticed as many fabrics on the market featuring these beautiful little creatures as I do now. Maybe it’s their beautiful colour spectrum that we are drawn to or maybe it’s that flighty ‘I can fly away anytime I like’ thing that draws us to them. Either way birds are featured on textiles in every colour spectrum and in just about every species and add an elegant, whimsical touch to interiors.



You already know I am a sucker for a matching wallpaper and fabric, isn't this colour punch spectacular! And the gorgeous birds a little surprise for the one who takes a closer look.
